We're introducing a phased reopening plan to ensure that we can be as safe as possible whilst getting back to flying as quickly as guidance allows.

22Friday nd May 2020We're now able to offer Aircraft Rental to those in currency from Tuesday (26th May).
If you're a member but are not current, feel free to give John (Head of Training) a call on 01777 838222 and he'll assess your skill and experience on a one-to-one basis.
Rental can only operate within the guidance around recreational flying activities as advised by Government. This currently means only solo flights, or flights where everyone is from the same household, are permitted.
Members should check their email with more detailed guidance about the new procedures introduced.
19Tuesday th May 2020We are now in a position to safely offer those wanting to take Theoretical Knowledge Examinations the ability to do so.
We're offering slots to our existing members at 10:00 and 12:00 Thursday - Saturday, bookable on our online booking system. However, if you would like a different slot, please call us on 01777 838222 and we will do our best to accommodate you.
This will ensure that we can maintain social distancing and give adequate time to clean rooms between uses.
At this time, we are still not in a position to offer aircraft rental or training due to the Government guidance and airport operational restrictions. We are monitoring the situation constantly and will update you as soon as we're able to safely return to flying.
16Saturday th May 2020Yesterday, the Department for Transport (DfT) announced guidance for lifting of restrictions on solo flying in England. However, as the airfield remains closed and as most rental customers are out of currency requirements, we will not be allowing any flying at this time.
It has also been mentioned that the guidance could just apply to private owners and we are awaiting clarification that hire of aircraft is allowed.
AOPA are planning on meeting with the DfT and CAA on Monday (18th) to discuss the ability for short check rides to take place to allow those out of currency to regain currency.
The guidance does say that socially-distanced theoretical knowledge examinations can take place and we will be offering those needing to take examinations the ability to do so as soon as we have a firm plan in place, early next week.
10Sunday th May 2020Today, the Prime Minister announced the new road map for exiting the current lockdown situation. As we are still awaiting guidance to change before resume flying operations, we will be cancelling bookings on a weekly rolling basis.
We will continue to cancel member bookings by email, but we'd also advise you check your bookings on the Members Area.
Trial Flying Lesson customers and those not yet members will be contacted by phone a few days before their booking.
We are busy making arrangements for our eventual reopening and will resume our flying operations as soon as we are able.
16Thursday th April 2020As the Government have announced a three week extension to the current social distancing measures, we will continue to suspend all flying until at least the 10th May 2020, inclusive.
We will continue to cancel member bookings by email, usually on the Monday of the week that you are booked in.
Trial Flying Lesson and those not yet members will be contacted by phone a few days before their booking.
Phone lines will remain open and emails will still be replied to.
23Monday rd March 2020We will be ceasing our flying operation from 18:00 today until at least the 26th April 2020.
We will constantly review the situation and update this webpage as things progress. Members will receive email booking cancellations. Trial Flying Lesson customers and those not yet signed up will be telephoned.
Phone lines will remain open, however, please note that phone lines may become busy. If this is the case, please leave us a voicemail and we will ensure that your call will be returned in a timely manner.
19Thursday th March 2020We understand that some of our Trial Flying Lesson customers are concerned and would rather delay their pre-booked experiences.
Whilst we are still operating with stricter procedures which strive to keep our customers and staff safe, we are allowing these bookings to be rebooked or delayed.
- Gamston Flying School eVoucher customers are asked to contact us by telephone and eVouchers will be marked as postponed which invalidates the current expiry date.
- Phoenix Flying School voucher customers are asked to contact us by telephone.
- Virgin Experience Days are offering free extensions on all experiences. If your voucher isn't due to expire soon, please contact us by telephone.
- Buyagift are providing free of charge extensions to all customers. If your voucher isn't due to expire soon, please contact us by telephone.
16Monday th March 2020The Government now advises that the public should avoid social contact and avoid unnecessary travel. Due to this we are requesting that:
- Customers should only attend if they have a booking.
- Trial Flying Lesson customers bring minimal spectators and they do not wait in the Gamston Flying School building.
- Landing away should be avoided where possible.
12Thursday th March 2020We have introduced new procedures to try and protect our customers and staff. The procedures are clearly displayed in the office and include:
- Customers and staff are asked to wash their hands when they arrive and leave.
- We will be disinfecting surfaces and touch points (card machine etc) regularly.
- Where possible, we are encouraging all members to use their own headsets. We will be disinfecting our headsets between each use.
- Customers with symptoms of Covid-19 are asked not to attend. For anyone with symptoms of Covid-19 or who are self-isolating, our cancellation fee will not apply. Please let us know by phone or email as soon as practically possible.
